    BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

      The Information Technology Policy Council is one of three councilsdesignated by the President with decision-making authority at theUniversity of Memphis. It has been in existence approximately a year and a half. Part of the rationale for creating this body had to do with attempting to ensure that U of M regard the utilization of information technology across the institution as a strategic resource.

      Goals for participation in the IWIS project include an effort:

      1. to identify best practices at other institutions which might be adapted for the University of Memphis;
      2. to share successful strategies and ideas that we are utilizing with other institutions;
      3. to formally document advantages and shortcomings of the I.T. governance structure with respect to strategic initiatives at the U of M;
      4. to seek new and innovative ways to develop and successfully implement information technology strategies that furthers the mission of the institutions;
      5. to continue to modify and improve the I.T. strategic planning process at the university.
